You Are My Child
By Nathan and Jenna Strong
Much too early she loves him the way
She knows how
But he moves on and leaves her heart behind
First love always aches the most she says
I can’t go on
But mother takes her hand and wipes her eyes
Chorus:
You are my child
I’ll be by your side
I’ll never leave you or forsake
You are my child
Verse 2:
Nine months later she holds on to what has
Grown inside
But she is young and she cannot provide
Placing the baby in eager arms she says
Please be her guide
They hold the tiny hands as they testify
Chorus 2:
You are my child
I’ll be by your side
I’ll never leave you or forsake
You are my child
You are my child
I’ll never leave you or forsake
You are my child
Verse 3:
Adopted but always accepted, truly loved
Still compelled to ask
How could my mother leave me and not look back?
Searching for meaning she can finally see
God by her side
And she can faintly hear his lullaby
No matter how old you may grow up to be
You will always be my baby
So hush, please don’t cry
